As BizTalk reaches end of Life, Black Marble is here to help

A mainstay of integration solutions for many years, Microsoft have announced that Biztalk is on its final version (2020) and will go out of mainstream support in under four years. However if you have any version of BizTalk before 2016, it is already out of support and you should consider expediting your move from BizTalk today.

BizTalk was built to solve a set of problems which it did remarkably well, but the general adoption of the cloud and new patterns of working has left BizTalk and other on-premises integration platforms somewhat lacking. More importantly the same solutions can be delivered as cloud native integrations which are much more cost effective, with built-in scalability, security and higher levels of governance.

The outcome for organisational users of BizTalk is clear: BizTalk is end of life and moving off the platform is the only option.

While the extension of BizTalk Server 2020 Mainstream Support is indeed positive news, organisations must use this additional time judiciously. Properly designing and executing the transition from BizTalk to the Cloud requires thoughtful planning, and for many organisations with substantial integration estates, this is no small task. It should be meticulously planned, with a focus on robust governance and adherence to best practices. Successfully moving from on-premises to the cloud demands strategic foresight and careful execution.

A recent survey indicated that only 6% of BizTalk organisations have migrated their solution off the platform. With limited skills in the BizTalk market and an approaching deadline, we predict that there will be a lot more organisations struggling to do the same, and as they wait until the last minute, they will not be able to get the skills and resources needed for a successful migration.
